Taco Tuesday

We have been highlighting some amazing tacos over the past several months with our Taco Tuesday feature. For this edition, I wanted to take a little bit of a different approach and feature an untraditional taco, Kemuri’s Ahi Tuna Crispy Taco.

Yes, you read right, Kemuri has tacos. Well, they only have one taco, and it is only available at lunch. But if you are willing to think a little outside the box with your taco cravings and want to indulge both a love for sushi and tacos, this is an excellent option.

I will not lie to you. These are not the biggest tacos in the world. Each one is 2-3 bites. To help visualize the size for you, Kemuri fries up two wonton wrappers and uses them as the shells. If you are dining in, the presentation is beautiful, and, if you are doing takeout, like me, just know that Kemuri is meticulous with their packaging. All the taco’s ingredients are packaged separating, and this includes the pickled slaw, mayo, and soy-marinated small chunks of raw tuna.

For $12 (before tax), the lunch special also includes a sizeable portion of fried rice, edamame succotash, and an Asian salad. Put everything together, and it is a delightfully satisfying, yet not overwhelmingly heavy lunch. If you are doing takeout, as mentioned, this will be a build-your-own-taco experience. That means you will have to fill each shell with a spoonful of tuna, then top it with slaw and mayo. It is pretty fun to construct, and the taste is even better.

The slightly salty, soft tuna pairs well with the mayonnaise, and the acidity from the pickled slaw gives each bite vibrant flavor. A nice crunch from the shell gives the taco some texture and is the perfect compliment to the soft tuna.

And there is another thing not to be overlooked. Kemuri is one of the most consistently good restaurants in the Little Rock area. I have eaten there 20+ times through the years and have never had a bad meal. Never. That is no easy feat, especially during these times when places are struggling so much. Whether it is dine-in or takeout, kudos to the staff for always doing an excellent job, not only with the food but with top-notch service as well.

Head up to Kemuri for lunch and try out some of these tacos. If you are a big eater, add on a sushi roll and dessert. I recommend the Crazy Lover and cappuccino jar. They also have a robata section to the menu, and, while many folks do not know this, Kemuri serves up one of the better steaks in town with their beef tenderloin topped with onion rings.

Before I get off track, I need to keep in mind that this is Taco Tuesday, so go try out those Ahi Tuna Crispy Tacos.
