We are forecasting that you may have a lot of free time indoors over the next couple of days because of all the snow and ice we might get. To help you not get bored while stuck inside, we’ve compiled a list. We’ve broken it down into things that will be fun for the whole family, and things that will be fun to do without the kids.

Family-friendly

  1. Do a puzzle. Sometimes, nothing is better than sitting down with a puzzle. Especially if you have older children, this can keep the whole family busy for hours.
  2. Bake a dessert. Find an easy recipe from one of your favorite cookbooks and have the kids help you make it.
  3. Create a pillow and blanket fort. After you build it, you can set up your laptop and watch your favorite movie in it.
  4. Try finger painting. This one might get messy, but it will be fun! All you need is some paper or canvas and washable paint. Then, just use your fingers to spread the paint around and create your masterpieces.
  5. Host a family talent show. Take some time to practice your talent before and then take turns wowing each other.
  6. Write and act out a silly play. Make up some characters and memorize your lines. Then, act it out for an imaginary audience.
  7. Dance party! This is a great way to get the body moving and get out some energy. Turn on your favorite tunes and show off your moves.
  8. Host a stuffed animal tea party. Dress up fancy and have your children greet the guests while you brew up some warm tea. Once it is ready, you can all sit around the table, sipping and enjoying each other’s company.
  9. Go on a scavenger hunt. Set up some clues that will take the kiddos to different spots in the house, leading them to a fun snow day surprise at the end.

For the adults

  1. Give yourself an at-home spa day. Put on a face mask, get into a bubble bath, paint your nails — anything to pamper yourself while you have the time.
  2. Create a vision board. Even though we’re past New Year’s, it’s never too late to make a vision board. Print out some pictures of places you want to visit once it warms up, goals you’d like to accomplish this year and anything else that inspires you.
  3. Bake some fresh bread. This might have been one of your 2020 hobbies that you have since given up. But what better time to get back into it than when you are snowed in?
  4. Do yoga. It is an easy and free way to get your body moving, even while you are stuck indoors. There are plenty of YouTube videos to follow along with to help you know what to do.
  5. Write letters to loved ones. A letter is so much more meaningful than a text. Even if you write something short, mail it out once you can leave your house again, and that person will surely appreciate the gesture.
  6. Read a whole book in a day. This one may be hard if you are not a fast reader. We suggest picking a shorter book that you have been really excited to read and just going for it! Even if you don’t finish it, you will have read a lot of it.
  7. Clean out your closet. This may not sound like fun, but you will feel so accomplished once you have gone through and picked out everything you have not worn in ages. Then, you can feel really good when you donate those items later on.

Bonus: Read AY Magazine! Whether you have picked up our latest copy or you are reading online, we always have some fun and interesting stories ready for you to dive into. Catch up on them while you are snowed in this weekend. We hope you have fun and stay safe!
