What’s Going On in December


There’s always something going on in Little Rock, and sometimes you need some help deciding what to do. That’s where we come in! We’ve put together a list of the can’t miss events that you need to be at during December. This list is presented in partnership with the Little Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Arkansas State Capitol Building Lighting Ceremony

Dec. 1

Kickoff the holiday season right at the annual Arkansas State Capitol Christmas lighting ceremony. The Big Jingle Jubilee Holiday Parade will make its way down Capitol Avenue and end at the State Capitol. At dusk, dignitaries will flip the switch and illuminate the Capitol with around 100,000 lights outlining the building. The grand lighting ceremony concludes with a fireworks show above the gleaming Capitol dome. The event is from 5:50-7 p.m.

The Promenade at Chenal’s Animated Holiday Light and Music Display

Dec. 1-26

The holidays aren’t complete without a good light display. If you love driving around and admiring Christmas lights, The Promenade at Chenal has you covered! Performances are scheduled every night starting at 5 p.m. through 9 p.m


Not-Quite-Holiday Film Fest

Dec. 4, 11, 12, 18 and 20

Head over to the CALS Ron Robinson Theater for this entertaining film series that’s happening throughout December. You can see movies that aren’t quite Christmas movies, but we know they really are. Watch Edward Scissorhandson Dec. 4, Trading Placeson Dec. 11, Love Actuallyon Dec. 12, Die Hardon Dec. 18 and Gremlinson Dec. 20.


Ballet Arkansas’ 40thAnnual Nutcracker Spectacular

Dec. 7-9

Accompanied by the talented musicians of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, Ballet Arkansas is pleased to present the 40th Annual Nutcracker Spectacular at the Robinson Performance Hall on December 7 – 9th for four performances. This magical production features nearly 200 local children and adults, in addition to the professional artists of Ballet Arkansas. Tickets are $23-73 and $99 for “Sweet Seats”


Arkansas Chamber Singers Holiday Concert

Dec. 8

Get in the spirit of the season with the Arkansas Chamber Singers as they perform traditional carols and songs. This free event is sure to be a season highlight.


The Little Craft Show

Dec. 8

Experience the best that Arkansas has to offer at the Little Craft Show. Little Craft Little Rock is bringing 60 local and regional artists to offer a great shopping experience, as well as workshops and giveaways. There will be woodworkers, printmakers, jewelers, weavers and more.


Sesame Street Live – Make Your Magic

Dec. 12

Magician Justin is visiting Sesame Street to put on a fantastic magic show, and Elmo wants to play too. The only problem is Elmo doesn’t know how to do magic. Over the course of this heart-warming show, Elmo will learn that you can accomplish anything you set your mind to.


Ugly Sweater Race 5K

Dec. 16

Dig out that ugly holiday sweater and join the Little Rock Marathon crew in December for the Ugly Sweater Race 5K!


Finding Neverland

Dec. 22

Discover the child within yourself as you take a trip to Neverland in this award-winning musical. Finding Neverland tells the story of J.M. Barrie, who is inspired by four young brothers and their adventures. He sets out to write a play and creates a magical world.


Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker

Dec. 27

Witness the majesty of the Moscow Ballet’s sumptuous rendition of The Great Russian Nutcracker. With world-class dancers and hand-painted sets, this performance will leave audiences breathless.
