It’s often difficult to truly understand someone until you’ve seen the world through his or her eyes.
The stigma of mental illness still exists today, and psychological health is often overshadowed by other common medical conditions, such as diabetes and heart disease.
The 8th annual Walk a Mile in My Shoes sale event will take place April 13-14 at Springdale Holiday Inn, 1500 S. 48th Street in Springdale.
The event is presented by Rush Running Company, and all proceeds will benefit the Ozark Guidance Foundation, which aims to change and save lives by providing quality mental health services across Northwest Arkansas.
“1 in 5 adults, adolescents and children can have behavioral health disorders that interfere with the way they think, feel and act,” according to Ozark Guidance’s website. “When untreated, behavioral health disorders can lead to school and work failure, family conflicts, drug abuse, violence and even suicide. Untreated behavioral health disorders can be very costly to families, communities and the health care system.”
The VIP presale party will kick off at 5:30 p.m. on April 13, and VIPs will enjoy a silent auction, entertainment, chocolate tasting, hors d’oeuvres and drinks. Tickets to the VIP event are $45 per person.
The Walk a Mile in My Shoes sale will run from 8 a.m. to noon on April 14. Discounted new and lightly used shoes, handbags and more will be up for grabs, and all for a good cause.
Volunteer positions are open, and donations are being collected until April 10. Nearly new shoes and handbags can be dropped off at any Ozark Guidance Location during normal business hours.
