Shelly C. Williams
Owner/Operator, Miracle Ear Little Rock
Before she became a board certified hearing instrument specialist and owner of Little Rock’s York Hearing Center, a Miracle-Ear franchise, Shelly C. Williams had zero experience with hearing aids. However, the natural problem solver found joy in helping make life easier for those with hearing loss.
Williams has a master’s in business administration from Louisiana State University – Shreveport and a bachelor of science from Northwestern State University of Louisiana and is licensed by the states of Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi.
Hometown: Pitkin, La. Moved to Little Rock in April 2017
First job: I was a lifeguard at the community swimming pool.
Favorite food: Anyone who knows me knows my favorite food is pizza. However, as I’m getting older, I would like to retrain my taste-buds to enjoy healthier options!
What attracted you to your career? I chose Miracle-Ear because it gave me the opportunity to do what I love most: make a living by helping others. Every new case is a puzzle waiting to be solved. When it is, I feel like a winner.
What accomplishment are you most proud of? Earning my master’s degree in business administration. It helped me develop a base of knowledge that would later give me confidence in becoming a business owner.
What’s something others would be surprised to know? I was in the top 10 of the Miss Teen Louisiana pageant, but blew my chance at the crown with my answer to the on-stage question, “What is your favorite subject in school and why?” I told them my favorite subject was biology and dissecting a cat!
What do you love most about what you do?
In a word, it’s my patients. When a patient comes back and tells me how he just had the best conversation with his wife he’s had in 15 years, because no one had to repeat or raise their voice, or when another patient comes back and tells me that she’s hearing her grandbabies better than ever, and it made the car-ride home from school so much more enjoyable, I can’t help but fall in love with all of it!
What quality do you most admire in other women?
The ability to have a joyful and positive demeanor through any situation that life brings. In business (and life!), kindness is often mistaken for weakness. I am inspired when I see a woman who “means business” but keeps her inner light shining through it all.
Personal motto: Never, never, never give up.
Hobbies: When I find free time, I enjoy playing tennis and spending time with family.
Childhood nickname: Well, this is embarrassing. My mom called me Squirrel. My dad called me Ralph. I wish I had an explanation for this. LOL!
