Local brews, Arkansas-themed cocktails and musicians coupled with a kid- and dog-friendly atmosphere make The Rail Yard in Little Rock’s East Village area one of the most happening spots in town.
Amid that liveliness is Brandon Dorse, co-owner and operator, who purchased The Rail Yard LR about nine months ago but has worked in the food-service industry for 20 years.
“I am actually living my dream,” he said. “I’ve worked for countless owners in the restaurant industry and helped build and maintain their dreams, and now I have the pleasure to see mine develop in front of me.”

He is one of two people who handle the day-to-day operations of the restaurant, including customer service, running orders, serving, bartending and food preparation. Knowing that he is building an establishment that is important to the community is worth the sleepless nights and 14-to-16-hour workdays that come with running the joint, he said.
“People need to know and realize that we are just regular people who work in an industry that we love,” Dorse said. “We’re here to serve, help and make sure you have a wonderful experience. Be kind, patient and understanding.”
The career is not for those who do not enjoy social interaction, lack thick skin and want to keep their anxiety levels in check, he added.

“I think the best life lesson is everyone is someone, and karma is real,” he said. “Treat everyone like you’d want your mother or grandmother to be treated — with respect. This goes for workers and customers.”
The Rail Yard LR has become a local favorite since it opened in 2018, so it is no surprise that Dorse has become acquainted with regulars who stand out because “they’re always full of energy and have great vibes” or, in one case, for “always bragging about how great our food and drinks are.”
“My proudest accomplishment would definitely have to be turning a first-time customer and stranger into a regular and newly found friend,” he said.

He added that he recommends the burgers to customers, and his two favorites are the catfish plate and the double smashburger. When he is not at The Rail Yard, he said, he spends time with his wife and their three dogs on their miniature farm.
“I’d just like to say thank you to all the family, friends and loved ones who believed in my abilities and dreams and a special thank you to all the people who didn’t,” he said.
