Onyx Coffee Lab, headquartered in Rogers, will open a new location in the historic First Security Bank building located in downtown Springdale. The cafe will occupy a portion of the 46,000 square feet of space that was sold by First Security Bank of Searcy to real estate group Moses Tucker Partners in 2022. The multi-use building, located at 112 W. Emma Ave., will include retail, restaurant, residential and office spaces. Construction on the new cafe will begin on Sept. 1.

Onyx Coffee Lab co-founders Jon and Andrea Allen are both Springdale natives. The two have opened Onyx locations in Bentonville, Fayetteville and Rogers. Moses Tucker Partners’ $3 million renovation will provide the building with modern amenities while maintaining its mid-century modern charm and significant role in Springdale’s history.

“We knew that we wanted to bring a location to Springdale and decided that now is the time for Onyx to open in downtown Springdale,” said Andrea Allen. “Emma Avenue is always buzzing with activity, and we felt it was the perfect time to return to our roots.”

Emma Avenue serves as the heart of downtown Springdale and has been a cornerstone of the community for over 130 years. Onyx’s new location is just minutes away from popular attractions, including Walter Turnbow Park, the Apollo on Emma theater, Shiloh Museum of Ozark History and the J. Reilly McCarren Transportation Museum.

“We’ve spent two years planning this concept and working with ownership to create a truly one-of-a-kind cafe. There’s a lot of momentum with restaurants and business openings, expansions to the Greenway and constant improvements to our community,” said Jon Allen. “It’s been fun to watch Emma transform into something neither of us ever dreamed of. We’re thrilled to get to be a part of it.”

The concept will feature an evolving specialty coffee program much like other Onyx’s. However, the focus here will be chocolate. The entire bean-to-bar production facility will be fully open to customers inside the cafe to learn more about roasting cacao and the craft and art of developing single-origin chocolates from around the world. New breakfast, pastry and lunch will be served alongside house-made ice creams and a small offering of natural wines.

Onyx is committed to the long-term vision of the First Security Bank building development and to bringing excellence, hospitality and a premium coffee experience to every customer. Visit OnyxCoffeeLab.com to learn more.
