Nurse Rachel’s Daily Skin Care Routine

Lines of jars of daily beauty creams. The view from the top.

I’ll be honest, before I started working at Little Rock Plastic Surgery, I really didn’t have a skin care routine. I was lucky if I slapped on some moisturizer in the morning and got my makeup off at night before jumping into bed. Once I put myself on a skin care regimen, I could see a BIG change in my skin. Everyone’s skin is different and everyone has different skin care needs, but here is my daily routine.

Facial Cleanser: I use Neutrogena’s foaming facial cleanser. It is gentle, but effective. I also like to use SkinMedica AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser three to four times a week. It gently exfoliates leaving my skin brighter and smoother.

Toner: I use SkinMedica’s Rejuvenating Toner. A toner acts as a second step in the cleansing process. Toners are important for balancing the pH of your skin, minimizing the appearance of pores and removing all germs and impurities. A toner is especially important if you are acne prone.

SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic: This Vitamin C serum is one of my favorite products! Not only does it leave your skin feeling silky smooth, but it is an important product because it helps to prevent damage from free radicals associated with atmospheric aging and it also helps to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and discoloration.

SkinMedica Lytera 2.0: Lytera brightens skin, evens skin tone and texture, and helps to reduce the appearance of dark spots, sun spots, or discoloration. It gives you brighter, more even skin and I love that all skin types and tones can use it.

SkinMedica HA5: In the morning, I use this product as my “moisturizer.” HA5 is a hydrator that is made up of five different forms of hyaluronic acid that instantly smooths lines and wrinkles, but gives you continuous hydration through the day.

Sunscreen: The most important product to put on in the morning! SkinMedica Essential Defense, SkinCeuticals Physical Fusion and Elta MD’s Daily Broad Spectrum sunscreen are some of my favorites.

Retinol: This is the best product to give you younger, more radiant skin. If you only used one product, I would say choose this one. Retinol increases skin cell turnover and helps reduce the appearance of brown spots, sun spots, fine lines, wrinkles, acne and large pores. It also improves skin tone and texture and gives your skin a radiant glow.

Erno Laszlo said it best: “Beautiful skin requires commitment, not a miracle.”
