Fans of good and greasy drive-in fare may be ecstatic to learn that Kream Kastle Drive Inn on U.S. 70 in Benton is set to reopen soon. Heather and Ray Queen, owners of Salem Dairy Bar in Benton, will manage operations at the business and plan to reopen the establishment in all its creamy grandeur.

“We’re excited about it because we already pretty much do the same thing over at the Salem Dairy Bar,” Ray said. “We’re just pretty much taking our business and putting it in a new building, so it should go great.”

He said he is unsure when the restaurant will reopen but hopes to reopen in the next week.

“It’s not going to be exactly the same, but we are going to have some favorites from the previous owners and bring stuff from Salem Dairy Bar that makes it great and try to make [Kream Kastle] better,” he said.

He added that the restaurant will reopen with a limited menu that will include cheeseburgers, chili dogs and ice cream. The establishment will also serve barbecue, he said, adding that it will likely start with pork before adding beef and ribs.

“There have been a lot of people asking about the spicy popcorn chicken, so I guess we’ll do that too,” he said.

Kream Kastle closed last summer. The diary bar was a frequent stop for central Arkansas travelers on the way to or from Hot Springs.
