Diversifying an income portfolio is often the best way to avoid bumps in the market, and Kim Minor has done just that. She is the principal broker and co-owner of RE/MAX Real Estate Results with offices in Bentonville and Springdale, the No. 1 RE/MAX office in the state of Arkansas for 13 consecutive years. In addition, she is an Arkansas licensed real estate educator and owns Results Real Estate Academy, a school offering continuing and post-license education and pre-license classes. She is also a partner in Crestwood Homes, a residential, custom home builder constructing in Bentonville, Pea Ridge, Rogers and Springdale, as well as partner in a commercial and residential real estate investment company.
“I believe real estate is one of the best sectors to invest in,” Minor says. “There is a risk in any investment, but real estate is my preferred strategy as Northwest Arkansas real estate is often less volatile than other investment opportunities.”
Minor’s real estate brokerage model is designed for full-time professional agents striving to better themselves. It offers comprehensive educational opportunities to help professional and personal growth.
“The last quarter of each year I spend one-on-one time with each agent helping them plan for the next year,” she says. “Goals are important, but you must take the time to create and implement a plan to make it all work.
“We are a group of agents who are here to support each other. Whether it’s covering when we take vacations or sharing what works and what doesn’t. We want to see each other to continue to lead the NWA real estate market.”
Crestwood Homes focuses on mid-market houses that bring affordability and quality to Northwest Arkansas. The company focuses on energy efficiency, using every available space for storage and creating open living spaces to make home life more comfortable.
Minor entered the real estate in March 1999, when she began working part-time. Two months later, she put her family’s three children in daycare and started full time. She obtained her real estate license that October and her broker’s license two years later. In 2005, she bought out the owner who she started working for and took over management of the company.
“I enjoy every aspect of the real estate industry,” Minor says. “I am a problem solver by nature, and my job as the broker/owner allows me to help agents in the complex situations they face daily. Every day brings a new challenge.”
No challenge may have been greater than during the housing market crash in 2008.
“The real estate industry in Northwest Arkansas was hit especially hard after enjoying several years of explosive growth. I am proud to say that our agents and company weathered the storm and came out stronger than ever before. Seeing the effects a negative economy has on our business gave us all a life lesson in proper business planning and working together.”
She also has personal experiences to help guide customers through the building process.
“My largest project by far was designing and building my new home,” she says. “It was a three-year labor of love and lots of frustration. Building your own home is not as easy as most would think. However, I am at peace when home cooking meals for my friends and family or just hanging with my backyard chickens.”
