Dancing to great music, an astonishing costume contest and a sumptuous silent auction is what makes the Mardi Gras Costume Ball & Contest “the Most Exciting Party of the Year!”  Join Mardi Gras King Jazz VII, Don Gooch and his Queen Jazz VII, Dana Gooch along with their royal court, Duke John Holt and Duchess Peggy Holt, in this evening of fun that begins with the hoppin’ Dixieland group, Spa City Stompers, and rolls through the evening with Delta Brass Express, a dance band that blends blues, classic rock and a bit of jazz.

Proceeds for the Mardi Gras Costume Ball & Contest support the Hot Springs Jazz Society’s scholarship program for high school music students and keeps the annual outdoor concert, “Jazz in the Streets”, during the JazzFest free and accessible for all.  Anything the Jazz Society produces starts with making it fun.  Therefore, the annual Mardi Gras is pack with as much entertainment and amusement that can be mustered.  Steven Kirsch will personally pick a singularly extraordinary piece of fine jewelry for the raffle, the $20 restaurant certificate grab bag will guarantee purchases worth $30 or more to fine area restaurants and the costume contest winners will share a $1,000 cash prize.  Past contest winners have amazed the audience with: Monty Python’s Knight and Coconut Clapper Sidekick, Voodoo Witch Doctor & Doll, Death Day Masks and an abundance of authentic Mardi Gras style costumes.  So much eye candy, there’s never a loss of something to enjoy at the Mardi Gras Costume Ball & Contest.
