AY reported in June of 2022 that a Hispanic shopping center was set to replace the former Brown’s Country Store and Restaurant in Benton along Interstate 30. Since then, new details have emerged about the store set to replace the iconic Brown’s.

Supermercado La Alianza has set up signage and has begun painting the exterior of Brown’s Country Store. The Hispanic grocery store will have a meat market, a bakery and an abundance of food and candies. La Alianza’s predecessor, Brown’s Country Store and Restaurant, closed during the COVID-19 pandemic when the owners retired after 47 years of business.

La Alianza’s name, which translates to “the alliance,” is symbolic of the multiple Hispanic cultures that the merchandise will have originated from. As Benton continues to grow and expand, many Hispanic residents realized that traditionally Hispanic groceries were harder to find, leading to the creation of La Alianza. Owner Ignacio Alvarez shares that the store will open in May.
