Lifetime’s new six-episode docuseries, “The Prison Confessions of Gypsy-Rose Blanchard,” showcases unprecedented access into the life of a victim of Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy who suffered horrific abuse and made national headlines for her role in her mother’s violent murder.

For her entire life, Gypsy-Rose has been sick. At least, that’s what her mother fooled her and everyone else into thinking. In reality, her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, fabricated a leukemia diagnosis for her daughter, shaved her head, forced her to use a wheelchair, made her undergo several unnecessary medical procedures and so much more.

Gypsy-Rose eventually started to catch onto what was happening. In one instance, she discovered she was actually 19 years old and not 15 – the age her mother had been telling everyone. So in 2011, she tried to escape from her mother’s Missouri home with a 36-year-old man named Dan whom she had met at a sci-fi convention. He had promised to bring her to his farm in Arkansas. The plan didn’t work out because Dan was on parole and couldn’t leave the state.

After several attempts to escape and even shooting her mother with a BB gun at one point, Gypsy-Rose met a man online by the name of Nick Godejohn and the two quickly began a relationship. It was in 2015 when Gypsy-Rose purchased Godejohn a bus ticket from his home in Big Bend, Wisconsin so that he could then travel to her home and kill her mother. Once the deed was done, the plan was to travel back to Wisconsin and live happily ever after. As we all know, that isn’t what happened.

Gypsy-Rose was released from prison on Dec. 28, 2023. She was actually spotted with her husband at a Burger King in De Queen, Arkansas, just a few days after her release. The couple reportedly told someone in the restaurant they were just passing through on their way to Louisiana.

While no plans for a new series or movie surrounding the events of her life have been announced, Gypsy-Rose has admitted that she hasn’t watched the Hulu series based on her but that she believes Millie Bobby Brown would be a great pick to portray her if one were to happen. As of the date of publishing, Gypsy-Rose has accumulated 8 million followers on Instagram and 9.3 million on TikTok.
