Fort Smith native Madison Marsh was crowned Miss America 2024 on Sunday night!


Marsh, who graduated with the class of 2019 from Fort Smith Southside High School, is a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. According to the United States Air Force, she’s the first-ever active duty service member to win the pageant.


According to a release from Fort Smith Public Schools, Marsh visited Woods Elementary School after winning Miss Colorado 2023, tell the students to “Shoot for the Stars!”


Southside High School Principal Jeff Prewitt left the following statement about Marsh:

“We are excited to see the success that Madison is experiencing. As a student, her drive and dedication were second to none and caused her to stand out in a crowd. Her resilience in bouncing back from some extremely challenging and life-changing experiences is a true testament to her character. We are so very proud of her and what she has been able to accomplish and look forward to seeing the great things that lie ahead for her.”


Marsh is currently pursuing a Master’s in Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School. She is also the founder of “Whitney’s Race” and the Whitney Marsh Foundation, which were created after her mother died from pancreatic cancer in 2018.


Marsh is the fourth Arkansan to win Miss America and the first to win for another state.
