Mardi Gras isn’t until next Tuesday, but this weekend is when the parties are going to be kicking off. There are events all over Arkansas, so we’ll help you winnow down your list to find the Mardi Gras event that’s right for you!
Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday, is the day before Ash Wednesday when the season of Lent begins. This festival has a rich history that dates back centuries. However, the most famous Mardi Gras celebrations are those held in New Orleans. While Arkansas may not have a celebration that matches the Crescent City for fame or size, we’re doing our part to throw a great celebration.
Usually we save the best for last, but we have to start with the biggest Mardi Gras event in the state – the Eureka Springs Mardi Gras. There will be events held in Eureka Springs throughout the weekend and on Mardi Gras itself. Attend the Jokers Masquerade Ball tonight or catch the Krewe of Barkus on Saturday. Saturday is the official Eureka Gras Day Parade. On Mardi Gras, partake in the St. Liz Cajun King Cake Ball.
Little Rock is hosting its own Mardi Gras parade on Saturday. Starting at noon, the So Mardi Gras Parade will head through the SoMa district. Local restaurants and stores will also be celebrating.
If you’re on the eastern side of the state, check out the Mardi Gras festivities in Wynne! Sponsored by Wynne Downtown Revitalization, there will be a parade, a crawfish boil, gumbo contest and more. Come enjoy music by multiple bands, and don’t forget to dress up for the costume contest. The celebration will begin at 3 p.m.
Head down to Hot Springs for the Hot Springs Jazz Society’s annual Mardi Gras Costume Ball. You’ll join the Jazz Queen and King at the party and live to great live music. The party is from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Hotel Hot Springs. Admission is $60.
On Sunday, head over to the Little Rock Zoo to have some delicious crawfish brought all the way from Ville Platte, Louisiana. Craft beer is available for those 21 years and older. Enjoy Mardi Craw from 12 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 5. Admission is $35 for those 21 years and older and $25 for those 20 and younger.
They know how to have a good time in Hot Springs. On March 5, there will be a special Mardi Gras event at The Bourbon Bar at 501 Prime. Revelers can partake in delicious food and drinks while enjoying some fantastic musical stylings. Because no party is complete without prizes, there will be party favors and door prizes. Also, the first 50 people to arrive with receive complimentary Mardi Gras masks. The event is from 3 to 10 p.m. on Tuesday, and the admission fee is $5, which benefits the Gateway Community.
