A new Veteran’s Day event will combine a salute and remembrance with the anniversaries of the iconic Chevrolet Corvette and Little Rock’s War Memorial Stadium.

Dubbed “Corvettes and Veterans,” the free and family-friendly event will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11. The activities will honor all American veterans and coincide with the stadium’s 75th anniversary and the 70th anniversary of the Corvette, as well as the 100th anniversary of the Arkansas State Parks.

Activities planned include a procession parade of custom one-of-a-kind military-styled corvettes at 1 p.m., an official salute ceremony with presentations of colors honoring all veterans and their families at 1:30 p.m., special performances of state-wide high school Junior ROTC Teams, historical military displays from Camp Joseph T. Robinson, as well as other educational and historical displays.

The event is presented by the A-State Corvette Association. Jason Irby, president of the association, explained the relevance of the automobile with our service members.

“Corvettes aren’t just a car brand,” Irby said. “That name also represents a small, lethal, military classification of combatant warships dating back to the French Navy in the 1670s! It made sense for our group to put the event together and honor our veterans, and it’s even better to do so on the 75th anniversary of the Stadium which serves to honor all those who served in World Wars I and II. We want it to be a historical destination sport for visitors and tourism with markers and information panels.”

History and educational displays from around the state will be staged inside along the stadium concourses beginning at 10 a.m. Vendor concessions will sell food and refreshments.

The event is sponsored by the American Legion; Bale Chevrolet; Camp Alliance, LLC; Jason Irby Innovation Foundation; Little Rock Convention & Visitors Bureau; Little Rock Department of Community Programs and the Sequoyah National Research Center.
