Need a movie night sometime soon? The Central Arkansas Library System has got your back!

In April, CALS is hosting a series of movie screenings that will appeal to movie watchers with different tastes. Whether you want to watch an old favorite or that classic movie you’ve never gotten around to, there’s something for you.

This one’s not in April, but we couldn’t pass it up. Celebrate a big anniversary next week at CALS. 2019 marks the 25th anniversary of The Shawshank Redemption’s theatrical release. For only $5, you can watch the adventures of Andy Dufrense and Red Redding as they navigate life at Shawshank prison. The movie will be shown March 26 at 7 pm at the Ron Robinson Theater, and beer, wine and concessions will be available.

The “Movies of a Movement” series continues in April. This month, CALS will be showing the 2018 film The Hate U Give. Based on a New York Times bestseller, this movie tells the story of a young woman who witnesses the shooting of her best friend by a police officer. The film will be shown April 4 at 7 pm at the Ron Robinson Theater, and tickets are $5.

Some movies are meant to be seen on the big screen, and Koyaanisqatsiis one of them. With no narration or dialogue, the film tells its story entirely through images and music. It’s a unique experience, for sure.  The film will be shown April 9 at 7 pm at the Ron Robinson Theater, and tickets are $5.

General Tso’s chicken is a mainstay at Chinese restaurants throughout the United States. But what exactly is it? That’s what the documentaryThe Search for General Tsoaims to find out. Journey from the American Midwest to Shanghai and find out what makes this dish so special. The film will be shown April 16 at 7 pm at the Ron Robinson Theater, and tickets are $5.

Nothing says “Date Night” like a classic movie screening. CALS is showing the 1967 classic The Graduate, which introduced the world to Dustin Hoffman. Watch as Hoffman’s college graduate finds himself attracted to an older lover and her daughter. Best of all, it’s only $5! Go see it on April 19 at 7 p.m. at the Ron Robinson Theater.

“No, Mr. Bond – I expect you to die!” Go see one of the best Bond movies of all time – Goldfinger and find out why it’s so beloved. CALS is giving you a chance on April 23 at 7 p.m. at the Ron Robinson Theater. And best of all, it’s free!
