Big Orange Shakes Things Up For Charity

The Little Rock and Rogers Big Orange locations are raising money for charitable organizations in a colorful way.

Throughout the month of February, proceeds from each Lucie’s Rainbow Shake sold in Little Rock will go to Lucie’s Place, a shelter and resource center for young, homeless LGBTQ adults. Big Orange co-owner Scott McGehee says the restaurant raised $5,500 in 2017 and $5,000 in 2016 for Lucie’s Place. This year, the charitable shake program will expand to the newest Big Orange location – Rogers, Arkansas.

Known as the ‘Sunshine and Rainbows Shake’, each colorful treat sold at the restaurant’s Rogers location will benefit the nearby Sunshine School and Development Center – a local school providing individuals of all ages with developmental delays safe and inclusive learning environments, therapy, counseling services and support to ensure lifelong stability and success. 100 percent of the proceeds from the shakes will benefit each organization. All three Big Orange locations – Big Orange at the Promenade at Chenal, Big Orange Midtown on University and Big Orange Rogers in the Pinnacle Hill Promenade – are participating in the fundraiser.

Each shake is a delicious combination of an entire slice of four-layer cake in rainbow hues and Big Orange’s Plain Jane Vanilla Milkshake, topped with fresh whipped cream and colorful sprinkles.

Big Orange started Rainbow Shake Month in February of 2016 to raise money in support of Lucie’s Place in honor of a beloved shake crew member who passed away, McGehee says. The tradition of supporting good in the community through this shake has continued each February.

McGehee says the rainbow theme was initially inspired by the Lucie’s Place logo – but serendipitously applied to the Sunshine School and Development Center organization that Big Orange Rogers has been working with since summer 2016, whose logo features a rainbow to represent the wide spectrum of individuals they support and educate.

Be sure to stop by 2203 S. Promenade Blvd in Rogers, 207 N. University Ave. or 17809 Chenal Parkway in Little Rock during the month of February and shake things up for good!
