The world’s largest operating steam locomotive, “Big Boy No. 4014,” can be seen by Arkansans this fall as part of Union Pacific’s “Heartland of America Tour,” and you won’t want to miss it!

While Arkansas dates have not yet been specified, we know the tour kicks off on Thursday, Aug. 29, from Cheyenne, Wyoming, and will travel across Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas for the following eight weeks. That puts the tour’s conclusion near the end of October.

The only three dates listed on the site so far are for Rochelle, Illinois (Sept. 8), Houston, Texas (Oct. 6) and Forth Worth, Texas (Oct. 10 & 11).

Feel free to make your own assumptions based on that route and timeline, but Union Pacific will post much more about Big Boy’s route details, whistle stops and display locations as the tour approaches.
