Readers of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette today received a notice by mail that, without sufficient paid subscribers, it will soon cease publication of its monthly Arkansas Life magazine.
It would appear that the magazine, which began circulation in 2008, will be yet another casualty to our digital age. In the notice, Publisher Walter Hussman cites unsustainable advertising support to pay their bills, adding that the magazine has accumulated “significant losses over the past 10 years and continues to operate at a loss.”
It’s disheartening to see yet another printed publication so close to collapse. Hussman’s plea for paid subscribers comes after having withdrawn daily circulation of the Democrat-Gazette from many Arkansas counties.
While Arkansans will likely lose one statewide, slick magazine, they will continue to enjoy the monthly offerings of AY Magazine and Arkansas Money & Politics.
For more than 30 years, AY has been here, providing readers with exceptional cultural commentary, covering food, home design, travel and so much more. While so many publications worry about the objectively bleak future of print media, we persist. AY and AMP are alive and well, and we continue to grow and expand in size and reach.
Our award-winning publication, filled with articles from award-winning writers, is accessible to Arkansans in every corner of the state, regardless of their income or the neighborhood in which they live. AY is About You. It always has been. And it always will be.
