Potatoes come in many forms — tater tots, hash browns, mashed potatoes — the list goes on. But perhaps the most famous form is the French fry. No matter the shape or dipping sauce you use, the popularity of this fried fare cannot be denied.

The average American eats 17 to 34 pounds of fries every year. Since the food is so popular, it’s no surprise that the second Friday in July has been marked as National French Fry Day.

While you could pay a visit to a fast food chain for your fry fix this year, you could also consider stopping into a local restaurant. Here is a list of just a few of the places you could go to get great French fries on National French Fry Day (and anytime, honestly).

The Root Cafe fries

The Root Cafe

The Root Cafe (Little Rock, West Little Rock) – This farm-to-table restaurant serves fresh, local food in a warm environment. This extends to its hand-cut French fries, served with organic ketchup. For those looking for something a little different, give the sweet potato fries a try.

David’s Burgers (Multiple locations) – Not only are the fries here fresh and hand-cut, but they’re also endless. Eat as many fries as your heart desires while dining in. You can also expect plenty of extra fries at the bottom of the bag when you go through the drive-thru.

Big Orange (Multiple locations) – While Big Orange is known for its bold burgers, no burger is complete without a side of fries. The fries here come with different toppings or sauce options, including the State Fair Fries, which are topped with chili and cheese dip, or the decadent truffle herb fries.

Doe’s Eat Place

Doe’s Eat Place

Doe’s Eat Place (Little Rock) – For classic French fries, there are few places more classic than Doe’s Eat Place. This historic building has served many politicians and famous Americans throughout the years, and one bite of their food will show you why the restaurant has been around for so long.

Leo’s Greek Castle (Little Rock) – For cheap fries and even cheaper beer, pay Leo’s Greek Castle a visit. Try dipping the fries in tahini sauce for added deliciousness.

Smokin’ Buns (Jacksonville) – Smokin’ Buns motto, “we’re out in the country, but we’re worth the drive,” should tell you all you need to know about this Jacksonville staple. Whether you are getting a catfish plate, BBQ or a burger, make sure to get their fries on the side.

Fisherman’s Wharf (Hot Springs) – Stop off by car or boat at this well-known Hot Springs spot. No matter what you choose to eat during your visit, you do not want to miss out on the fries.

George’s Restaurant

JJ’s Grill (Multiple Locations) – JJ’s menu is full of bar food favorites, including warm and tasty french fries. If you are lucky, you may even catch some live music while you are there.

Hugo’s (Fayetteville) – A Fayetteville favorite, Hugo’s has been in the food business since 1977. This spot offers a wide range of appetizers that are worth visiting for, but it is known for its fries.

George’s Restaurant (Fort Smith) – George’s is best known for its burgers and homemade fries, but you can also enjoy their salads and pies. It’s a great place for good service and good food.
