Arkansas will crown its first beer mile state champions this fall as the inaugural Arkansas State Championship Beer Mile comes to Argenta on Oct. 24.

The competition challenges participants to drink four 12-ounce beers and run four laps for a total of one mile. At the end of the event, one man and one woman will become the first Arkansas State Champions of the beer mile.

“Beer Miles have become increasingly popular in the last decade,” said Jeff Chastain, race director. “They are a great way for a community to celebrate their craft beer scene and have a friendly competition that is fun for participants and spectators alike.”

Previously held as the Dogtown Throw Down, the race includes categories for participants of varying levels and is open only to those age 21 and older.

“This isn’t the only beer mile in Arkansas,” Chastain said. “We are going to invite their winners to attend our event and compete for the state title. And we hope to encourage more regional events around the state to qualify participants for the state championship and eventually make our race a full weekend event.”

The race will benefit Recycle Bikes for Kids, a nonprofit that provides free bikes to children, gives adults opportunities to earn bikes and supports community bike education and infrastructure.

Registration is now open through Oct. 22, with a limited number of spots available. More information and registration are available on the event’s official website.
