At the center of everything Ryan Taneja does is faith, family and a desire to build something meaningful. To see the impact the young entrepreneur has made so far — with his foot still firmly on the gas, at that — meaningful might be an understatement. Already at the helm of a marketing firm, venture capital outfit and family foundation, Taneja is leveraging his talents to help people believe in the power of their own stories. As he understands well, sometimes all it takes is that first step. “Starting my own business changed everything,” Taneja said. “It forced me to grow up quickly, learn how to lead, understand people, manage pressure and bet on myself. A lot of the opportunities and relationships I have today came from that one decision.”

If you could have any other profession, realistic or not, what would it be?
I would probably want to be the chief marketing officer of one of my dream companies, like Netflix. I already do marketing, but doing it on that scale, where you are helping shape culture, entertainment and how people connect with stories around the world, would be a dream.
How did you pick up your favorite hobby?
I picked up coin collecting from my parents. They helped me start my own collection when I was younger, and my mom would bring me interesting or unique coins she found in the cash drawer at our hotel. I also loved getting pressed pennies on vacations, so over time, it became a hobby tied to family, memories and history.
What is the coolest project you have ever worked on?
The coolest project I have worked on is building Taneja Marketing Group and its marketing suite, LiftOff. TMG started as a way to help businesses tell their stories and grow, but it has become much bigger than that. Building LiftOff has been especially exciting because it brings together marketing, technology, automation, CRM tools and business support in a way that can help small businesses operate smarter and grow faster.
What historical event would you most like to have experienced?
I would have loved to be in the recording studio while Michael Jackson was creating Off the Wall. To see the creativity, discipline and vision behind an album that helped shape pop culture would have been incredible.
What is your proudest accomplishment?
My proudest accomplishment is launching the Mini Taneja Purple Initiative’s first MTP Clinic, also known as the Mini Purple Clinic, in partnership with my alma mater. Creating a clinic that helps relieve the financial burden of seeking health care while also celebrating my mom and the lessons she has taught me has been one of the biggest highlights of my life. Seeing her name connected to a room dedicated to healing people meant the world to me, and I am excited to continue growing that work.
Who would play you in a movie about your life?
Shah Rukh Khan. I feel like he could match my energy, especially the mix of ambition, emotion, humor and drama. He has that larger-than-life presence, but he can also make a story feel personal and heartfelt, which I think would fit my life pretty well.
