For Dr. John Mark P. Pabona, coming to the United States after medical school was a defining moment. Leaving behind the familiar and stepping into uncertainty is never for the faint of heart, but the move opened doors to opportunity, growth and purpose the young physician could never have imagined, shaping the trajectory of his career. With expertise in internal medicine, hospital medicine and aesthetic medicine, his practice at Embrace Eternal Beauty Aesthetics and Wellness in Hot Springs is about helping people feel like the best versions of themselves inside and out. “Everything I do is rooted in purpose — not just to enhance beauty but to remind people to embrace life, be kind and love deeply,” he said.

If you could have any other profession, what would it be?
Astronaut.
What is your favorite thing about where you live?
Hot Springs is a hidden gem rich in natural beauty, from walking trails and lakes to the kind of fresh air that restores you. Having grown up in Manila in the Philippines and lived in Little Rock and New York City, I’ve experienced the intensity of city life. What makes Hot Springs so meaningful to me is its peace. It allows you to slow down, recharge, and live with clarity and purpose.
What is something you would never spend money on?
Cigarettes. As a physician, I see firsthand the impact they have. There’s no value in something that compromises your health.
What is something that happened to you that is so ridiculous you would not have believed it if you were not there?
Balancing hospital medicine, teaching young physicians, building a luxury clinic from the ground up and navigating personal challenges all at the same time. It sounds unreal, but it shaped me.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
Care Bears powers — the ability to spread love, healing and positivity. The world needs more of that.
What is your most prized possession, and what makes it special to you?
My relationships, especially my husband. They remind me what truly matters beyond success.
What is something you love that most people hate?
I actually enjoy eating crabs and shrimp with my hands, peeling the shells and taking my time with it. It reminds me of home and makes the meal more meaningful.
What is one thing you would tell your 18-year-old self?
Trust the journey.
