Weekend Plans: Nerd Games, Theater, Brunch and More

Thursday

Enjoy an evening of beer, pizza and good old-fashioned competition through a variety of fun games and activities at Science After Dark: Nerd Games, hosted by the Museum of Discovery. You must be at least 21 to enter. Tickets are $10. Beer will be available for purchase from Stone’s Throw Brewing and and pizza, beer and cocktails also available from Damgoode Pies. The festivities kick off at 9 p.m. at 500 President Clinton Ave #150 in Little Rock.

Thursday through Saturday

The Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas has received a major grant to host the Crossroad Festival. An inaugural event that centers around exploring the cultural heritage of Jefferson County. Spread across the three days, festival highlights include dance performances, traditional crafts and foodways demos by members of the Quapaw Tribe of Oklahoma, and live performances celebrating the great musicians of Jefferson County. The festival is free and open to the public. The Arts & Science Center is located at 701 South Main Street in Pine Bluff. Start times for the festival this weekend are as follows:
Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
Friday at 6:30 p.m.
Saturday at 10 a.m.

Friday and Saturday

The Weekend Theater presents Inherit the Wind by Jerome Lawrence and Robert Edwin at 7:30 p.m. The fictionalized tale is based on the 1925 Scopes “Monkey” trial, which resulted in John T. Scopes conviction for teaching Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution to his science class contrary to a Tennessee state law. Tickets are $16 for adults and $12 for students and seniors. The Weekend Theater is located at 1001 W. 7th Street in Little Rock.

Saturday

University of Arkansas Little Rock Trojan Basketball hosts Sun Belt Conference opponent Appalachian State this Saturday at Jack Stephens Center, 2801 S. University Ave. Women tip-off at 3 p.m. and men play at 5 p.m. Tickets start at $8.

Sunday

3rd Annual “Walk for Wheezy” is at Cabot High Panther Stadium, 401 North Lincoln Street from 2 to 4 p.m. “Walk for Wheezy” is a nonprofit organization that was created with the sole purpose of raising funds and awareness for Arkansas Children’s Hospital in memory of Eloise “Wheezy” Ann Owen. Eloise had a rare combination of lung and heart conditions and passed away in 2016. In two years, the organization has raised nearly $50,000 in her name for Arkansas Children’s Hospital. All proceeds benefit ACH. Tickets for this year walk start at $20. 

Blue Canoe Brewing Warehouse and Shambala Mobile Vegan Kitchen LLC are hosting Yoga Brunch at Blue Canoe Brewing Warehouse, 1637 E 15th St. in Little Rock from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Yoga begins at 11:30 a.m. Cost is $10 to participate in yoga and you have the option of a beermosa, mimosa, wine, or a craft draft. After yoga class, Shambala will be cooking up a healthy brunch. Stick around until 2 p.m. for brunch, drinks and games.
