ou Siegel has spent the last 15 years at Oaklawn as the Guest Relations Manager, or as he playfully calls it – the “BS Artist”.

It doesn’t take long to catch on that Lou is the booming personality of the hustle and bustle of the live racing season, which began on Friday the 13th of October this year.

Hailing from Little Rock, Lou found himself at Oaklawn 21 years ago when he retired from being a stock broker, and was looking for a fun job. Beginning as a “red coat”, the position that he now oversees, he embarked on a journey at “One of the neatest places…I meet a lot of interesting people”.

Now, he gets the privilege of taking guests out on the tracks and presenting trainers and owners with their winning trophy, amongst other exciting things. We were lucky enough to join him on the track for a few minutes, while our photographer and art director, Jamison Mosley, got the winning shots.

Mr. Lou charismatically reminisces on a funny story from his history at Oaklawn: “I meet groups and on one particular day, I was hosting a group of ladies. I’m just a smilin’ away (being his usual self) and one of the ladies walks right up to me and pulls a piece of lettuce out of my teeth.”

Jokes aside, Lou urges Oaklawn-comers to “embrace the experience, and if you can – see the horses up close and personal.”

He enthusiastically informs us about the new Show Bet Bonus and urges all to try it, if you play. The pay-off percentage is the largest in the U.S., and is meant to enhance the experience of newcomers when cashing a ticket.

Our bets Lou, is that it will be an exciting year for Oaklawn Gaming & Racing.

Thank you for all that you do, and keep those smiles a comin’!
