So, here’s a confession: we sold short the dining scene in Russellville.

During a recent trip, we ventured into downtown to satisfy our craving for a bit of barbecue, and we were more than satisfied after our visit to Fat Daddy’s Bar-B-Que.

Not normally a pork skins connoisseur, I was skeptical, but Fat Daddy’s delivered with a plate of meaty — yes, meaty — well-seasoned, generously portioned skins served with ranch-barbecue sauce. Be prepared to share; it was difficult to save room for our entrée … but we persevered, and we were glad we did. There was plenty of meat on the bones of these ribs, and the sautéed vegetables and potato salad served as good companions. The barbecue sandwich with onion rings and corn on the cob was tasty as well. I piled on the coleslaw and slathered on a bit of the mixed sauce — Fat Daddy’s has three, one sweet, one hot and one mixed — and was in barbecue heaven.

The friendly hostess recommended the mushrooms. In fact, she was the second person to do so that day, and because we love you, dear reader, we took her up on the offer. Served with a bit of Cajun seasoning, they were as tasty as the crisp onion rings.

Fat Daddy’s originated at a little store off of U.S. 64 in London, Ark., and Tony, the downtown kitchen manager, said, the secret to their success is consistency, good service, and loyal staff and customers. We agree with that and Fat Daddy’s slogan: “We put meat on your buns,” only we’d add a word because they put good meat on your buns.  Fat Daddy’s opens at 10:30 a.m., Monday through Saturday.
