Lunching in Little Rock: Heritage Grille Steak and Fin

In our Lunching in Little Rock blog series, Michael Kirkpatrick will explore and review the best restaurants in Little Rock and its surrounding area – all in time to get back to the office. This week, Michael ate lunch at Heritage Grille Steak and Fin.

Lunching with bankers is always fun for me. I love to observe them in their natural environment and see first hand, the art of the lunch meeting. David Stogsdill and Chance Tharp are two banker friends of mine who also enjoy the time-honored ceremony of the lunch summit.  They let me pick the spot, so I thought of a place they might not have tried, could bring a client, and get excellent food in a quiet and stylish environment. Heritage Grille Steak and Fin in the downtown Marriott Hotel was my choice.

The interior of the restaurant matches the stylish and modern decor of the hotel. There is a large bar area with tables and a large open-concept dinning area. We are seated in a comfortable spot in the back and a very attentive server takes our drink orders. Heritage has a daily lunch buffet, but the day was Friday. Anywhere in the South, that means catfish. David and Chance are studied the menu, but I couldn’t take my eyes off the buffet. Chance chose the grilled salmon on quinoa, David the sandwich and salad special, and I gave in to the temptation of the catfish buffet.

When their plates came, my confidence in my choice wavered. Chance’s gorgeous fresh salmon fillet and David’s spring-flavored salad and hearty sandwich with fresh bread looked really good.  The buffet was just fine, with the highlight being the mushroom soup and the Cobb salad a close second, but I think I should have chosen to order off the menu. To make matters worse, the server allowed us all to choose something off the dessert buffet.

Surprisingly, there was not a lunch steak on the menu, especially since Heritage is a steak and seafood restaurant.  I love a good lunch steak.

A wise man once told me you need to have a relationship with three doctors and five bankers. David Stogsdill and Chance Tharp are two of the five you want to know. You also need to go out to lunch more. Let a banker take you to Heritage Grille Steak and Fin this week.
