CHI St. Vincent Heart Institute Sponsors Central Arkansas Heart Walk

CHI St. Vincent Heart Institute is the presenting sponsor of this year’s American Heart Association Heart Walk. CHI St. Vincent has been a long-time sponsor of this event to fight heart disease and stroke.

“Excellent cardiology care is essential but to spread the message about the importance of heart health, we look to our community partners, like the American Heart Association,” says Marcia Atkinson, MHSA, vice president\administrator of the CHI St. Vincent Heart Institute.

The positive effects of healthy diet and regular exercise on heart health can be staggering. As a cardiologist and American Heart Association board member, Dr. Raj Chakka is passionate about heart health. “The disease process can start with plaque in the artery, even as a child. A lot of it is related to genetics, diet, obesity, not having exercise or multiple factors,” he explains. “What we do, however, has an impact in reversing that. There are studies showing that when someone with heart disease is put on a healthy program of diet and exercise, there is a regression or a reversal of the disease. It’s not a one-way street.”

The CHI St. Vincent Heart Institute Team will lead more than 110 physicians, nurses, staff and, most importantly, patients. The Heart Walk is April 28, 2018 and begins at North Shore Riverwalk Park, North Little Rock. Check-in is at 8:30 a.m. and the walk starts at 9:30 a.m. Walkers can walk 1, 2 or 4 miles. People interested in joining the CHI St. Vincent team can register at http://www2.heart.org/site/TR?team_id=394008&fr_id=3124&pg=team.
