Attention all dog, food and cocktail lovers, downtown Little Rock is getting ready to unleash its newest addition: Bark Bar.

Dog owners can enjoy Arkansas’ first off-leash indoor and outdoor dog park and restaurant. Bark Bar owner and operator Cara Fowler said the park is so unique because it does not operate like any other dog park.

“We give people a place to eat and drink, along with allowing people to let their dogs off of their leashes,” Fowler said.

Owners can kick back and delight in “The Dachshund” hot dog or a “Mellon Collie” cocktail while their dogs experience some freedom. Fowler said she wants everything served in the park to be safe for dogs and not harm them.

“We don’t have any chocolate items on the menu and we serve everything in plastic, nothing is in glass,” she said.

Two gates stand between the entrance and the actual park. The dogs have to check in at the first gate. The check in gate allows Bark Bar employees to check every dog’s records. After a dog is checked in, it is free to enter the second gate, lose its leash and roam and play through the park.

Fowler said her business partners are Elizabeth Michael and Dan Roda.

She said James Hays, who has two pugs, helped create a dog toy chandelier directly above the park’s entrance.

“He blew a little piece of glass and welded this whole thing for us,” Fowler said.

In the main seating area is a wall full of dog images. Fowler said all of the images are of “founding pawtners.”

“It’s a wall full of people who have supported us,” she said. Fowler said she is expecting even more images to fill up the wall.

The official public opening for Bark Bar is Aug. 1 and Aug. 26 is Bark Bar’s VIP Grand Opening Pawty.
