Arkansas designers aren’t the only ones who have favorite hot home trends. We spoke to several local home builders to find out their favorite features on the horizon. And they all have one thing in common: all things “smart.” Whether it’s a special keypad that dims your lights or voice activated music and television, top builders like Tony Dillon and Richard Harp see homes getting more and more responsive – but not at the expense of good, strong construction. Traditional home elements can also be a trend. Just ask successful home builder Bill Parkinson, of Parkinson Building Group; spray foam insulation may not be new for builders, but it will keep your home safe and warm, so that you can enjoy your smart technology inside.
“A cool product that we are currently integrating into some of our projects is Amazon’s voice search system, Alexa, to add voice control of the many brands of smart technology available for your home. You can speak to Alexa (or your Amazon Echo) and instruct it to control your lighting switches, ceiling fans, outlets and thermostats, plus it works with video doorbell systems like Ring as well.”

“Although not new to our industry, foam insulation and encapsulated attic spaces are one of my favorite suggestions for our clients. Creating a space where the HVAC can function inside of a controlled environment and moving the thermal envelope further from the home’s living spaces is a win/win.”
