3rd Annual Governor’s Culinary Challenge Set For Capital Hotel

 

This year’s Governor’s Culinary Challenge features gourmet bites from eight of Arkansas’ most touted chefs, signature cocktails from three local mixologists and jazz music by Dr. Danny Fletcher and company. The event is set for Monday, Oct. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the Capital Hotel.

Presented by Malvern National Bank and chaired by Peter Brave of Brave New Restaurant, this year’s event highlights a lineup of chefs from around the state including Payne Harding, Cache; Capi Peck, Trio’s; Marc Guizol, Capital Hotel; Matthew Bell, South on Main; Stephen Burrow, Forty Two; Diana Bratton, Café 1217 and Taco Mama; Jamie McAfee, Pine Bluff Country Club; and Cassidy Johnson, Samantha’s Taproom and Wood Grill.

Mixologists include Jared Teague, Heights Taco and Tamale; Luiggi Uzcategui, Big Orange; and David Richmond, Skinny J’s.

Assisting each chef and mixologist will be a celebrated local personality; these special guests include Kevin Kresse, artist; Joe Smith, Mayor, North Little Rock; Mark Stodola, Mayor, Little Rock; James Hayes, artist; Margaret Ellerbee, president, Pulaski Technical College; Renee Shapiro, film critic and anchor, KATV; Chris Kane, anchor, KATV; David Bazzel, host, 103.7 The Buzz; Jason Harper, former news anchor; Angela E. Thomas, editor, AY Magazine; and Lisa Fischer, host, B98.5.

The Governor’s Culinary Challenge’s mission is to provide a creative venue in which guests can not only celebrate the culinary talents of local Arkansans, but also embrace the significance of the arts among youth as they help support students statewide. 100% of Governor’s Culinary Challenge proceeds will benefit Thea’s scholarship program, which has awarded more than $2 million to Arkansas high school seniors.

The Governor’s Culinary Challenge has already grown into Thea’s second-biggest fundraiser with drawing sponsorships from Malvern National Bank, presenting sponsor; Southland Gaming and Racing; iShares; Masching Financial Group; DentaQuest; Ben E. Keith; Glazer’s; Capital Hotel; and AY Magazine.
